چکیده

We report the TeV gamma-ray observations of the nearby normal spiral galaxy NGC 253. At a distance of ∼2.5 Mpc, NGC 253 is one of the nearest starburst galaxies. This relative closeness, coupled with the high star formation rate in the galaxy, make it a good candidate TeV gamma-ray source. Observations were carried out in 2000 and 2001 with the CANGAROO-II 10m imaging atmospheric Cerenkov telescope. TeV gamma-ray emission is detected at the ∼11σ level with a flux of (7.8 ± 2.5) × 10−12 cm−2 s−1 at energies >0.5 TeV. The data indicate that the emission region is broader than the point spread function

Surveying the Tev Sky with Milagro

A wide field of view, high duty factor TeV gamma-ray observatory is essential for studying TeV astrophysical sources, because most of these sources are either highly variable or are extended. Milagro is such a TeV detector and has performed the deepest survey of the Northern Hemisphere sky at TeV energies. In addition to detecting the Crab Nebula and Mrk 421, which are known TeV sources, Milagr...

Comparison between Amperometric and Chemiluminescence methods in detection and dosimetry of cobalt-60 gamma ray emission

Background: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), produced by gamma ray irradiation to watery solution, was used as an analytical parameter for dosimetry of cobalt-60 (60Co) radiation. Materials and Methods: Detection of the produced H2O2 was carried out using two methods: an amperometric biosensor fabricated by immobilization of anthraquinone 2-carboxylic acid modified horseradish peroxidase on glassy car...

Measuring TeV Gamma-Ray Diffuse Emission from the Galactic Plane with Milagro

Diffuse gamma radiation produced in the interaction of cosmic-ray particles with matter and radiation in the Galaxy can be used for probing the origin of cosmic rays. With its large field of view and long observation time the Milagro Gamma-Ray Observatory – a water Cherenkov detector in New Mexico, USA – is an ideal instrument for surveying large regions of the Northern Hemisphere sky and for d...

Constraints on GRB TeV Emission from the GeV Extragalactic Diffuse Gamma-Ray Flux

TeV gamma rays emitted by GRBs are converted into electron-positron pairs via interactions with the extragalactic infrared radiation fields. In turn the pairs produced, whose trajectories are randomized by magnetic fields, will inverse Compton scatter off the cosmic microwave background photons. The beamed TeV gamma ray flux from GRBs is thus transformed into a GeV isotropic gamma ray flux, whi...
